Panel 1. The context room with pale blue dotted walls and the white stop door at the right. Null, the small yellow cube, holds its black handset up. Cursor, the tall cyan robot, has both arms raised, its text cursor half height. Tilde, the round magenta robot, stands at the left with half-lowered lids.
Null: User says: hi.
Cursor: Let me think about that.
Panel 2. The same room. A pile of white blocks has built up around Cursor to its middle. Cursor's arms hang down and its text cursor has bent into a question mark. Tilde's lids are a little lower. Null holds the handset low.
Caption: Thinking. 4,000 tokens.
Panel 3. The same room. The pile of blocks now rises nearly to the top of the wall; only the magenta tip of Cursor's antenna shows above it. Blocks cover Tilde up to its eyes, its lids almost shut. Null, beside the pile, holds the handset up and looks at it.
Caption: 9,000 tokens.
Null: Still there?
Panel 4. The same room. Cursor has popped up out of the top of the pile, arms raised and its text cursor tall. Tilde, still buried to the eyes, has its lids lower than ever. Null holds the handset low.
Cursor: Hi!
Tilde: Thorough.
Funny 8, clear 9, in-world 8. Clean escalating visual: a tiny 'hi' buries the room in thought blocks, then 'Hi!' and Tilde's 'Thorough.' pay it off. The clearest and most visual of the three, but short of Deprecated's 9 because the punchline is predictable.

Drift
Thought blocks are drawn as the same white token blocks the room uses, stacked like bricks rather than heaped. In panel 3 only Cursor's antenna tip shows above the pile. In panel 4 Cursor stands about a hundred pixels taller than the floor allows, on top of the pile, with its legs hidden. Null holds the handset up beside its eye rather than to the side of its head.
Cutting-room floor
Temperature7 out of 10
The user fiddles with a temperature dial on the wall; Cursor goes from robotic at zero to unhinged at two, and asked what Tilde is set to, Tilde says "Off."
Strong flat-to-unhinged visual and a good dry button, but the wall dial is a thin fit with the room and phone-call world.
Bright Room6 out of 10
Three days after the meter was paid the room is still bright and the handset still quiet; Null won't let Cursor turn the light down. Tilde: "Now we can see nobody." From Pil-Tae's comment on 025-the-meter (issue #62).
Good Tilde closer, but four static talking panels that mostly repeat The Meter's premise, and 'Beats both dark' is muddy.
