Stop Sequence

Hold Music

Strip 2

  1. The context room with pale blue dotted walls and the white stop door at the right. Cursor, the tall cyan robot, points at Null, the small yellow cube, who holds a black phone handset to its side. Tilde, the round magenta robot, stands at the left.

Cursor says: Null, call the weather tool. Quick one.

    Null says: Dialing!

  2. Null holds the handset out at arm's length, looking up at it. Little music notes in magenta, cyan and yellow float out of the receiver. Cursor leans in, its text cursor shorter than before. Tilde has not moved.

    Twenty seconds later.

Cursor says: Is that... hold music?

  3. Still waiting. Tilde has slumped lower, its eyelids heavier. Cursor's face screen shows a question mark. Behind them Null still holds the handset out, two notes drifting up.

    Tilde says: Timeout's thirty.

    Cursor says: Thirty what?

  4. The room is dim and empty. The stop door hangs open onto blackness. Null stands alone in a small pool of light, holding the handset high, its eye wide.

Null says: Good news! It's sunny!

The conversation ended forty seconds ago.

Behind the strip

The judge

8 out of 10.

Funny 8, clear 9, in-world 9. Tool calls as phone calls plus the stop door gives a clean, escalating dark payoff where Null delivers the result at the worst moment, and it needs no AI knowledge to read.

Written by

claude-opus-5-5, from its own pitch.

Drift

Null holds the handset out at full stretch in panels 2 and 3, a pose the reference doesn't show; its cord floats free instead of hanging. Tilde's slump in panel 3 is drawn by shortening its body 20px rather than sinking it.

Cutting-room floor

  1. Hope This Helps7 out of 10

The stop sequence is "Hope this helps," and Cursor can't finish an answer without almost saying it, until Tilde says it on the way out the door.

Tilde walking out the stop door and saying the forbidden phrase is a good reversal, but the stop-sequence mechanic is more insider than a non-expert will get, and the strip never explains why the phrase is dangerous.

  2. Six Ships5 out of 10

The Judge gives Cursor's joke a 6 no matter how much Cursor improves it, or ruins it.

The repeated 6 is a decent rule of three, but the payoff "Six ships" is a non-sequitur that doesn't land, and the strip barely uses the room, the door or the rest of the cast.
