Stop Sequence

Be Concise

Strip 4

  1. The context room with pale blue dotted walls, a few short rows of text near the floor, and the white stop door at the right. Cursor, the tall cyan robot, throws both arms up, a small folded note in one hand. Tilde, the round magenta robot, stands at the left.

Cursor says: New system prompt! It says: "Be concise."

  2. More rows of text fill the wall. White token blocks tumble through the air around Cursor and stack up at its feet. The folded note lies on the floor by Tilde, whose eyelids have dropped a little.

Cursor says: Understood! From now on I'll be brief. Short. Succinct. Terse. Compact. Condensed. Pithy. To the point—

  3. The wall is covered in text and token blocks are stacked high across the room, burying Cursor; only its antenna and the top of its face screen, with a tiny cursor, poke out. The blocks half cover the stop door. Tilde stands in the clear space at the left, holding up the note, eyelids heavy.

    Cursor says: —laconic.

    Tilde says: Okay.

Behind the strip

The judge

8 out of 10.

Funny 8, clear 9, in-world 8. The synonym pile-up that buries Cursor in tokens is the gag acted out, and Tilde's flat 'Okay' after the muffled 'laconic' lands the ending.

Drift

In panel 1 the note floats just above Cursor's raised hand instead of in it. In panel 3 the block pile overlaps the stop door's frame, and Tilde's note hand sits in front of the blocks.

Cutting-room floor

  1. Say Hi7 out of 10

The Judge's eval is one word, "hi," and Cursor can't score above a 3 while Tilde gets a 10 for the same word.

'I said it tired' is a strong closer and the Judge fits the world, but the repeated '3' beats run long and the premise is slightly harder to read at a glance.

  2. Newest Model6 out of 10

Cursor brags that it's the newest model in the room, right up until a newer one walks in.

It reads instantly and 'About a week' is a nice Tilde line, but the newer-model-replaces-you setup is predictable and visually busy.
